Civilizations are divided into 3 types according to the Kardashev Scale:
Type1: Able to harness ALL available energy output of an entire planet
Type2: Able to harness ALL available energy output of an entire star
Type3: Able to harness ALL available energy output of an entire galaxy
well... humans are unfortunately not yet considered a Type 1 civilization but rather a Type 0. According to global energy production statistics, as of 2010, our Kardashev rating is only 0.71 from 0.58 since the 1900s.
If we use the Kardashev Scale to chart humanity's progress, we have:
Type 0.25: Roman Civilization
Type 0.50: Industrial Revolution Era
Type 0.60: 1891 to 1938 (Modern Era)
Type 0.70: Information Age / Nuclear Fission Era (1989)
Type 0.80: World Government / Nuclear Fusion Era
Type 0.90: Space Elevators / Global Mega-city (Ecumenopolis)
Type 1.00: Near space colonization, asteroid mining, terraforming planets, near space industry and economy, starship building.
If we follow this trend, it is predicted that we will become a full Type 1 civilization by the year 2200.
By the year 5200, humanity would have reached a Type 2 civilization. By then we would have been able to colonize different star systems, and also by then, we would have the capability to build artificial planets, ringworlds, aka Dyson Spheres which are massive stellar scale engineering projects.
By the year 7800, we would have reached Type 3 on the scale and by then we would have been able to travel between galaxies or perhaps different universes (if others do exist).
But of course, all of this are possible assuming if by then humans have found a way to travel across INSANELY vast distances of space in very short time. And I'm talking about Faster Than Light travel methods and I mean many-many times faster than light. If we don't our progress would be slowed by millions of years instead of thousands.
Again, this is assuming we don't get wiped out by natural events (asteroid hit, massive solar flare, gamma-ray burst, and extinction causing events) or destroying ourselves to extinction due to war and careless destruction of our own planet. Unless humans think as a species and not as separate nations and races, and unless humans ever learn to settle their disputes and differences, we'll have a hard time getting there.
Do you think we will ever get there??? just a thought...
